FAQs

Trade Bedrooms supplies made-to-measure sliding & hinged wardrobe doors, tracks, liners, interiors and storage systems across Coventry, Dudley, the West Midlands and surrounding areas.

These FAQs explain what is included, how to measure, whether sliding wardrobe doors are easy to install, typical lead times, showroom visits and how to order.

About Our Products & Services

What exactly is a made-to-measure fitted wardrobe?

A made-to-measure fitted wardrobe is built specifically for your room — designed to your exact height, width, and depth. Unlike flat-pack furniture or standard-sized units, everything we make is manufactured to fit your space precisely. That means no wasted gaps, no awkward overhangs, and a finish that looks as though the wardrobe was always part of the room.

Can you fit wardrobes in unusual or awkward spaces?

Yes — and it’s one of the things we do best. Sloped ceilings, chimney breasts, alcoves, angled walls, and irregular room shapes are all things we deal with regularly. Because we design and manufacture everything ourselves, there are no standard sizes we have to stick to. If there’s a space, we can work with it.

What types of wardrobes do you offer?

We offer both sliding and hinged door wardrobe systems and fitted bedroom furniture across a range of finishes and frame styles, including our Minimalist, Frameless, Fox, Shaker & Square Mini frames. A range of coloured glass, mirror and board finishes are also available. Alongside wardrobes, we also make bedroom chests and internal wardrobe storage. Everything can be built to any height, width, or depth.

What frame styles are available, and how do I choose?

We offer eight frame styles ranging from sleek, minimal aluminium designs to more traditional Shaker and Fox styles. The right choice depends on your room, your existing décor, and your personal taste. Our team will talk you through the options and help you narrow it down — and we use specialist CAD software to show you how your chosen design will look before we build anything.

How many finish and colour options do you have?

We offer over 200 board finishes — mostly from the Egger range — and 36 glass colours. Door infills can be mirror, coloured glass, or MFC board, and handles come in steel, aluminium, and wood. The interior finish typically matches the exterior, giving a clean, considered look throughout.

Do you supply internal storage?

Yes. We supply hanging rails (single and double), shoe racks, conventional shelving, and manufacture chests of drawers to your sizing. Our made-to-measure internal modular system means everything screws in securely and is designed to fit perfectly alongside your wardrobe doors.

Pricing & Value

How much does a fitted wardrobe cost?

Our projects typically start at £1,400. The final price depends on factors like the size of the wardrobe, number of doors, the frame style you choose, whether you opt for mirrors or coloured glass, handle selection, design complexity, and how many pieces are included in the room (such as chests). We’ll give you a clear, itemised quote after your consultation — no hidden costs.

Do your prices include VAT?

Yes, all of our prices include VAT at the standard rate of 20%.

The Process

What does the process look like from first enquiry to installation?

Our typical process runs like this: you get in touch, we arrange an initial consultation, we take measurements and talk through your requirements, we produce a CAD design for you to review, we agree on finishes and details and produce a final order form for you to review. We then manufacture your bedroom furniture in our UK workshop, and then our own team installs it. From that initial consultation through to installation, the whole process usually takes five to six weeks.

Do I need to have a clear idea of what I want before I get in touch?

Not at all. Many of our customers come to us with nothing more than a problem they want solved — a bedroom that doesn’t work, a space they’re not using, or a vague idea of what they’d like. Our job is to help you get from that starting point to a finished design you’re happy with. You don’t need to know anything about frame styles or finishes before you call, but you can check out our installation gallery for inspiration from some of our previous installations.

Will I be able to see what my wardrobe will look like before you build it?

Yes. We use specialist CAD software for fitted furniture, to produce a detailed design render for you to review before we manufacture anything. You’ll be able to see the layout, the finishes, and how everything fits your room — and we’ll make changes until you’re happy before we proceed.

Manufacturing & Installation

Is everything made in the UK?

Yes. All of our furniture is designed and manufactured at our workshops in Coventry and Dudley, West Midlands. We don’t outsource manufacturing. This gives us full control over quality at every stage, and means we can genuinely produce furniture to any specification — including sizes and configurations you simply won’t find anywhere else.

Who carries out the installation?

Our own team handles every installation.

What warranty do you offer?

The running gear on all our wardrobes is guaranteed for the duration of your residence in the property. If something isn’t right, we’ll come and sort it.

Are sliding wardrobe doors easy to install?

Made-to-measure sliding wardrobe doors are straightforward to fit — you screw the top track to the ceiling and the floor track to the floor, and you’re done. Side panels are also easy, though you will need to cut your panel to the correct height.

Do I need a professional installer?

For Sliding wardrobe doors, you don’t have to use a professional installer. All of our sliding wardrobe doors and interiors can be installed by a competent DIY person. That said, if you’d prefer us to handle everything, our team can take care of the full installation for you.

For Hinged wardrobes & fitted bedroom furniture, we would recommend our professional installation team in order to achieve the perfect fit & finish.

How long do sliding wardrobe doors take to install?

Most sliding wardrobe doors can be fitted within an hour. A full room with interiors will take a little longer, but the process is designed to be as straightforward as possible.

Can sliding wardrobe doors be installed by one person?

Most of the installation is a one-person job. However, we recommend having a second pair of hands when lifting doors upstairs or fitting larger doors into the tracks.

Products & Accessories

Are tracks included with my made-to-measure sliding wardrobe doors?

Yes. We supply matching tracks with all our sliding wardrobe doors at no additional cost. You do not need to buy them separately.

Do I need wall and floor liners, and if so what are they for?

We advise using wall liners. By fitting fillets you can remove any deviation in the walls so that the sliding doors fit cleanly to the fillets — they prevent the doors knocking against plasterwork and give a tidier finish. They also help where you have skirting boards on the wall. We recommend floor liners if you are installing on top of carpet or if you plan to have carpet fitted.

Are floor and wall liners the same as fillets, striker plates, and short end panels?

Yes — striker plates, wall liners, and floor liners are all essentially the same thing. In simple terms, they are strips of wood that frame your sliding wardrobe doors on either the floor or the walls.

How do I measure the size of my sliding wardrobe door opening?

Always measure your sliding wardrobe door opening in three places on the height. For the width, measure in two separate places and provide us with both measurements. If you’re unsure, give us a call and we’ll walk you through it.
